The history of electric transmission in Korea rightly began with the lighting of the first electric light in Gyeongbok palace in March 1887 which marked the beginning of our electric power business.

In 1961, the Korea Electric Company (KECO) was established. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, KECO constructed many power plants and transmission facilities using loans from advanced countries. The hard work and dedication of KECO’s employees were a major contribution to the rapid economic growth that resulted in the ‘miracle on the Han River’.

KECO became Koera Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) in 1981. Then KEPCO has continued our commitment to the development of the electric power industry in Korea.

KEPCO has been engaging in upgrading the transmission voltage from 345 kV to 765 kV for bulk power transmission supplying a stable power.

When korea upgraded the transmission voltage from 154 kV to 345 kV, the project was done on a turn-key basis using both capital and technology from advanced countries.

Now the 765kV transmission project is our own. Because Korea has developed a wealth of experienced technical personal, domestic manufacturers, engineering and construction companies during the last 40 years.

KEPCO's electric power quality is world-top class. Especially, KEPCO has world class transmission technologies, including a 765 kV transmission system. Also, The Korean engaged in electrical industry is working hard, for attaining our goal which join the ranks of world’s top 5 heavy electrical equipment-making countries.

There can be no doubt that Korea has secured a position among the world’s best.
