Welcoming Speech by Moon duk Kim

▲ Kim Moon-duk, Chairman of Korea National Committee of CIGRE (KEPCO vice-president)
As all of you are well aware, the Korean War in the 50's has left nothing but ruins. Over the past 50 years, Korea's electric energy industry has made a significant contribution to laying the foundations of Korean economy getting back on its feet again. Starting from only 360MW generation capacity right after the war, it now stands at over 73GW of installed generation capacity nation-wide. Base on such achievement, we were able to start Asia's very first 756kV transmission grid operating in 2002.

We strongly believe that such achievements will help Korea's transmission technology in becoming an important player in the global market for the years to come.

Ever since the last 2005 meeting held in Brazil, we've been hoping for the opportunity to host the meeting once again here in Korea. And thanks to KEPCO, KIEE and other related organizations, we are very excited to have you here with us tonight.

I hope this meeting will offer you the chance to share your thoughts and maybe learn little bit more about Korea's power technology as well as about other countries that are attending. Once again we welcome you all and hope you have a fruitful (great) time during your stay.

Speaking of Korea Power System, immediately after the Korean War, the whole generation capacity held by KEPCO was only 360MW. Nowadays, Korea's national wide installed generation capacity stands at approximately over 68,000MW, growing 189 fold over the part 50 years.

With successfully starting operating 765kV transmission system in 2002, Korea's transmission system took firm step toward becoming an important player to lead global transmission system.

Now I would like to emphasize the importance of establishment of cooperative relations between Korea and your individual country, in order to lead fruitful result in this meeting.

And I am looking forward to your playing an important role in each and every meeting you are involved.

Be closing my welcome speech, once again welcome all of you and wish you to have unforgettably happy memory in Korea.

Congratulatory address by Bernard Dalle

▲ Bernard Dalle, CIGRE SC B2 Chairman (RTE Senior Executive Consultant)
On behalf  of all the SCB2 Members who are attending these meetings, I would like to congratulate the Organising Committee members and all the KEPCO people for all the tremendous work in preparation  for our Study Committee meetings, tutorials and Colloquium. Our program is exceptional, and I am proud to stay that the organization is, too !

We had very fruitful discussions during these first three days, both during our Strategic & Administrative meetings and during the two tutorials. I also know, that WG had very intensive discussions during their meetings.

I am also very proud to be participating in the colloquium that will be held on Friday which clearly shows that you are a leading country when it comes to UHV equipments. With more than 750 km of 765 kV lines, four 765 kV substations and transformers, you have developed a lot of expertise in this field.

So, once again, on behalf of all the SCB2 delegates, I would like to thank all the Korean organisers for all the preparation they had made.

On a different note, I would also like to say a few words on the organization of social events and tours for all the better halves who accompanied their spouses all the way here : every thing has been perfectly organised down to the last detail ! I am encouraging you all to join the events and tours prepared especially for you as they will give you the opportunity to know more about the South Korean culture and their rich cultural heritage.

Farewell address by Woo-Kyum Kim

▲ Kim Woo-Kyum, Chairman of Local Organizing Committee(KEPCO Senior Vice President)
I would like to express my deep appreciation to Chairman Bernard Dalle who made the CIGRE B2 Korea Meeting successful, CIGRE members from all around the world, and all the participants of 765 kV Colloquium.

I had my share of concerns as a chairman of the Local Committee of this meeting. I worried if you find it difficult to get accustomed to the eastern culture, which is quite foreign to those from the west.

I was also concerned about the influence of new influenza on the meeting. I am very pleased that this meeting went so well despite all my concerns.

The global power industry is rapidly changing based on clean energy development and smart grid. I am looking forward to seeing CIGRE study committee B2 taking the lead in the global power industry.

You will visit Gochang Power Testing Center where Korea's first 765kV double-circuit transmission technology was developed and look around its globally-competitive test facilities. I hope you have a wonderful time during the rest of your stay in Korea before you go back to your country.
