KEPRI focuses creative R&D projects and technical service to guarantee and secure the high power qyality and meet the demand. Also, KEPRI has been developing the low-carbon, environment-friendly technologies; Renewable Energy, Carbon Capture and Storage, Power IT and Smart Grid, PHEV.
KEPRI employs six hundred highly skilled personnel and established world class transmission system research and testing facilities. With these state-of-the-art facilities, KEPRI develops future technologies in the transmission system field. At the same times, KEPRI is trying to create the new technology to position it self as ‘Global R&D Research Center’.
In order to develop the double circuit 765 kV transmission technology for the first time in the world, KEPCO constructed the testing facilities such as a full scale 765 kV transmission test line, impulse generator, corona cage, conductor ampacity assessment test line and spacer damper test line etc. in Gochang since 1993, May.
KEPRI Gochang Power Testing Center consists of a 765kV Double Circuit Test Line. The test line runs parallel to the coast as is approximately 742m from the coast line.
Gochang Center is used for transmission line environmental planning and inspection, and for evaluating the environment impact of corona phenomena. Using the Gochang Center, KEPCO developed the environmental friendly double circuit 765 kV transmission design such as 6 bundle x Cardinal conductor arrangement, tubular type tower, optimal air clearance with 1,9 P.U. switching surge etc.
Now a days KEPCO have been developing the Gochang Center as one of the world class power testing center with adding other testing facilities such as one of the lagest underground cable testing yard, magnetic field reduction test line, +/- 500kV HVDC test line, 154kV intelligence substation, superconductor test yard, and EMF education center (E- free center), distribution test yard, test equipment of power quality devices etc. KEPRI, the research branch of KEPCO is responsible of the Gochang Power Testing Center.
