Institute of Technology & Quality Development in HDEC has researched an improvement for design wind loads of transmission tower support with KEPRI from 2005. Based on meteorological data measured by weather stations, reproduction cycle wind speed is calculated. And Institute of Technology & Quality Development has researched for an equation of design wind loads using Guest effect factor considered a kinetic characteristics of transmission tower support.

The wind speed increasement due to the terrain surrounding is difficult to calculate by users. So, the program which is able to calculate an increasement of wind speed on 8-direction is being developed. If users input the longitude and latitude using the Korean DEM (Digital Element Map), the program will be able to calculate automatically.

Also, That will be very useful for identification of reasons about tower destruction or damage of a support. Experiment on wind velocity coefficient of transmission tower support is being performed using Wind tunnel in HDEC. Subjects of wind tunnel test are not only a wind velocity coefficient of the entire tower but also the support of tower. So, we expect to be a great help for calculating the wind velocity coefficient on various types of towers.

When this study is completed, we'll be able to make a reasonable plan for repletion and improvement of an existing tower and logical design for new towers considering kinetics parameters and accurate meteorological data.

Basically, building-wind is the damage. So, building-wind will be make to be weak using trees or other structures. Wind-power generating systems is applied as protection against wind with trees. Generally, HDEC try to minimize damages of noise and vibration using level of less than 1kW wind turbine.
